Design and Build
UMIDIGI always hits the spot with their designs but their designs are also quite familiar. In the sense that when you look at some of UMIDIGI devices you can immediately recall some famous flagship devices to your memory.
Take a look at the Umidigi A3 Pro and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
However, taking inspiration from many expensive devices and still giving that premium feel at a budget price is a unique ability UMIDIGI should be credited for.
The design is beautifully crafted with a ceramic casing and is a tad bit heavier than some of the phones in this size range. The device has its dimension set at 6.2 x 2.9 x 0.3 inches (157 x 74.65 x 8.5 mm).
The edges are curved, and the device has a screen to body ratio of 92.7% with an aspect ratio of 19:9.
Another UMIDIGI does well is it displays. The UMIDIGI S3 PRO boasts a 6.3-inch Full HD display. The colors are quite vivid, and the display is quite brilliant overall. A 409PPI for a 6.3” screen with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 says it all.
Processor and Software
At the core you’ll find a processor from the MEDIATEK HELIO P SERIES, the HELIO P70 to be precise.
The P70 is from the budget to mid-range tier and the best out of this lot is the P90. The P70 is older than the P90 and P95 and is the main bottleneck for this device. However, the P70 does have an AI chip that offers AI features for the camera.
RAM capacity again is superb for the price and so is the internal storage which can also be expanded using a MicroSD card.
The device ships out with stock ANDROID PIE and it can be easily updated to ANDROID 10 when UMIDIGI rolls out the update.
Moving on to the highlight features of this device. The device features two rear cameras and one front-facing camera. One rear camera and the front-facing camera is fitted with SONY lenses while the secondary rear camera sports a SAMSUNG sensor.
We all know how good SONY lenses are so I’m sure you can already imagine how good this device is with its camera.
The Primary rear camera uses the SONY IMX586 lens. This lens combined with the AI silicon on the Helio P70 works wonders. The photos are quite sharp and detailed and low light photography is a breeze.
Something I noticed was that the noise levels were quite low due to the pixel binning feature used. The 12MP telephoto lens is a good combination to the main lens and with the 2x Optical Zoom the pictures were quite clear even after a couple of zooms.
The front camera which features the SONY IMX376 lens is also alarmingly good, the pictures captured every tiny detail on my face. Unfortunately, my wrinkles were highlighted.
I’m also a big fan of battery life in Umidigi devices.
The S3 PRO features a 5150mAh battery and gives a super battery life. The AI silicon of the Helio P70 comes into action again and provides AI power management paired with 18W fast charging. The device has a USB-C port.
The device has a dual SIM feature and it supports 2G to 4G FDD-LTE networks. Since it has a wide range of network connectivity almost all service providers are covered.
In terms of WiFi, it supports IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac plus it also supports 5G Wi-Fi signals as well. The S3 Pro has Bluetooth 4.2 and Bluetooth HID along with Full NFC. You can easily make a payment from Google Play.
In my opinion, the S3 PRO from UMIDIGI is a solid deal for anyone looking for a budget smartphone with high-end features. The only bottleneck for me is the SoC used but again at this price with a solid camera and battery life I really can’t complain.
However, while the camera is top-notch if you are a true photography fan, I suggest you take a look at the triple camera Umidigi A5 Pro as well.
