If the only time you’ve heard the word ‘Viking’ is when someone says ‘row like a Viking’, you’re in for a surprise. The RCA Viking Pro is a tablet manufactured by RCA. Now, are you wondering what RCA is?

RCA or Radio Corporation of America is an American electronics company that was founded in 1919. They may not be your first choice for a tablet brand but is definitely worth looking into. The RCA 10 Viking Pro 10.1 is a budget device that is certainly worth a try.

Key Features

This device is a 2-in-1 Android tablet and it comes with the keyboard attached. When you unbox it, it looks like a mini laptop. The keyboard is detachable and there really isn’t any accessory in the box except the charger (and that’s not even an accessory).

There are two models released by RCA - RCT6K03W13H1 and RCT6A03W13F1H. The second one, released in 2017, is an upgrade with a few differences.

The device looks quite regular and there isn’t anything out of the ordinary. The second one is slightly larger than the first model, but they have the same screen size. The size of the keyboards corresponds with the size of the tab.

Device Specifications:

The Tab

The back is made of a plastic material but is still pretty sturdy and has a matte finish. On the side, you can see the power button, headphone jack, slot for microSD card, a mini HDMI port, a full-size USB port and one micro USB port for charging. The volume buttons are at the back, which is an unusual position but you get used to it.

The Keyboard

The keyboard fits very nicely with the tab courtesy of the magnetic (Magnalink) connectors. It is slightly heavier than the tab, so it lets you angle the screen to your preference without causing an imbalance. It is a regular keyboard but there is a touchpad included – so it does work like a mini laptop.

This device does not have the most advanced features but does quite well for the price.

The RCA Viking Pro works like any other Android device. It supports most of the apps you can download from the Google Play Store. It has a full HD 10.1” (256.5 mm) touch screen that fully rotates into landscape mode (even the home screen and navigation buttons). The display and resolution are pretty good, although colors are not that vibrant. The side bezels are somewhat thick but the screen size is comfortable for both watching videos and working.

The quad-core processor performs well. It has 32GB of internal memory but it can be expanded, so no reason to worry if that will be enough. The camera is disappointing, but that’s probably not why you would buy this device. The battery life on this is great, considering it isn’t a high-end product.

The Android version upgrade in the newer model (RCT6A03W13F1H) gives you a much smoother user interface. The later model is also slimmer, so it looks nicer than the previous one which is slightly bulky. But since the newer one is bigger, it is heavier too. It is also a little more expensive than the older one.

Time for Appraisal

Here’s what we think.

What We Liked:
  • Android version update – With the newer model, much appreciated.
  • Light and compact device – Great for travel.
  • Magnetic connectors – The keyboard fits tightly and you don’t have to worry about them detaching when you move or even shake it.
What They Could've Done Better:
  • Camera – Most people don’t use a tab to take pictures, but they could’ve done better with this.
  • RAM – A higher RAM would have significantly improved the performance.

Though it looks like a laptop, it is not powerful enough to replace one. It is overall handy to use, so you get the experience of a laptop and the convenience of a tab in one device. The device is great to carry around and get some work done on the go. For the given price, it is a good deal.

Does it sound like something you’d like to try? Check it out on Amazon.
