Best Windows Tablets You Can Depend On: Our Top 5 Picks [2020 Update]

Microsoft released the first Tablet PC with Windows OS in 2000 (long before iPads came into existence). Today, there are both Microsoft’s own devices as well as devices from other brands operating on Windows. Below, we have listed some of the best Windows tablets for you.

The majority of office computers use Windows. So a Windows tab can be your backup computer. Log into your Microsoft Account, and you can access all your data from the cloud storage on your tab. Even the applications are the same as those on your desktop, which means you do not need to convert your files or even find alternate applications.

One concern you may have is the device getting infected with malware, the same way they affect a desktop. But just as you would on a PC, this has the same solution – get a good anti-malware/ antivirus installed.

Despite this issue, there are some great tablets out there to check out. Here is our list for the best tablets that run Windows:

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon is a laptop preferred by most enterprises. Its namesake, the ThinkPad X1 Tab is also made for business. They released the 2nd gen in 2017. It comes in a variation of 8GB and 16GB RAM, i5 and i7 processor, so you can take your pick.

The screen size may be a bit large, which also makes the device a tad bit heavy, but it’s comfortable to work on. It supports both Windows Home and Windows Pro. The user interface and overall performance on this are great.

It comes with a detachable keyboard as well as a pen. The pen is not the best in the market even though it has over 2000 levels of pressure sensitivity. However, it is helpful when taking notes or sketching a quick design. It has a fingerprint sensor to keep your data locked and safe.

The speakers and camera are not that great but this device isn’t made for multimedia. So we can forgive that.

It comes in three colors – red, black and silver.

Acer has aced its tablet game with the Switch series. The Switch 5 was released in 2017.

The back of the tab is a lovely metallic grey that gives it a premium look and feel. With its 8GB RAM and i5 processor, the device performs pretty well.

One of the most stylish aspects of this device is that the fingerprint scanner is built into the power button on the side. It also has a USB Type C port and a full-size USB 3.0 port on the other side. It comes with a soft black keyboard cover.

You will find a lot of Windows 10 tablets with keyboard, but this one is backlit. The stylus is smooth and comfortable to use but it did have some palm rejection issues at the beginning, which is fixable on Windows 10.

The IPS screen has a great resolution, so images are crisp and clear. However, the brightness is not very high, so it isn’t the best to use outdoors.

Although it is easy to set up anywhere, it comes with an auto-retracting kickstand that easily lets you set the tab at your preferred angle, at 165 degrees.

Acer’s LiquidLoop cooling is an amazing technology. It keeps the device cool even when it’s used for a long time.

Device specs:

The RAM and processor on this device are not high-end. With a smaller screen size of 10.1” (256.5 mm), this is a compact tablet that is easy to carry around.

The low RAM is not an issue when working, but it can result in glitches when multitasking. On the contrary, the battery does not drain easily.

The plastic body does not look very premium but is quite durable. It has a mini HDMI port, micro USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports as well. The tab does not have a SIM slot, so you can only use a WiFi network on it.

Unlike other devices, this comes with five color options – black, blue, silver, pink and purple. It comes with Windows 10 Home and is cheaper than most other 10” (254 mm) Windows tablet. Portable and affordable, this is probably the best budget Windows tablet you will find.

Predictably, Microsoft tablets have the best of Windows. Released in 2018, with a RAM of up to 16GB and both core i5 and i7 variations, this tab has all you can ask for.

The high-resolution PixelSense display makes images look colorful and clear. The stereo speakers are enabled with Dolby audio, meaning video experience is incredible.

Although multimedia was not their focus, the 8MP rear camera with HD video recording and auto-focus does do better than most tablets. Even the front camera has an HD Skype video with Windows Hello face authentication.

There is a full-size USB 3.0 port and a Mini DisplayPort, as well as one Surface Connect port.

The super-slim kickstand adjusts very smoothly. With the 8th gen processor, working on this device is a breeze. The tab comes in two chic color variations – platinum and black, whereas the cover has four options – platinum, black, burgundy and cobalt blue.

It is light (weighs only about 14g) and easy to use, although the working area may be a little small for some people.

In 2019, Microsoft launched another version of the Surface Pro which looks exactly like its predecessor, with the exception of a USB port.

The camera, audio, and resolution on Microsoft Surface Pro 7 are the same as Surface Pro 6 – simply great. However, a 12.3” (312 mm) display with Intel Core i7 10th gen is the best combination you will find on a tab. This is a large Windows tablet with a large heart.

Unlike the Pro 6, this comes in three variations of RAM – 4GB, 8GB or 16GB. It is also available in processor variations of core i3, i5 or i7.

Since they’re all 10th generation versions, you won’t need to question the performance. As a result, prices will vary too. So you can choose a more or less powerful system based on your needs.

With an internal memory of up to 1TB, you won’t even need to use cloud storage to clear space (although it is always wise to back up your data).

This device includes a USB Type-C, one USB Type-A, as well as a Surface Connect port. Providing more options as well as more power than its previous version, the Surface Pro 7 is probably one of the best Microsoft tablets released so far.

Device specs:

  • Dimensions – 11.5 x 7.9 x 0.33 inches (292 x 201 x 8.5 mm)
  • Weight –  1.7 pounds (775g) - core i3 and i5 , 1.74 pounds (790g) - core i7
  • Screen size – 12.3” (312 mm) diagonal
  • Display Type – PixelSense display
  • Resolution – 2736 x 1824
  • RAM – 4GB or 8GB or 16GB

  • Camera – 8MP (main), 5MP (front)
  • Battery – 5702 mAh

Best Features

  • Lightweight
  • USB Type-C port
  • Options for system capacity

What We Didn’t Like

  • Battery life not as great on a higher processor
A Smaller Alternative

All these devices are 10” (254 mm) or larger. They are essentially meant to serve both business and entertainment requirements.

However, if you want a more compact alternative to carry around, take a look at the HP Envy 8 note.

The plastic body does not make a good first impression but it’s a solid, durable alternative to other materials. It is super light as well.

The 2GB RAM and Intel Atom processor give an average performance, which is fine for doing some emergency tasks. But it might not be able to take a lot of multitasking.

It has a 4000mAh battery, which is not the largest capacity. However, owing to its smaller display size and low RAM and processor, the overall battery life is good.

It has one micro USB and one USB 2.0 port. The 5MP camera does not seem like much but it takes pretty decent pictures because of the auto-focus.

This device is comparatively less high-end. The 8.1” (206 mm) IPS display has a decent resolution and Windows 10 lets you enjoy all your favorite Microsoft apps.

The lack of features comes at a lower price, which may be a bonus if you’re not looking to spend much.

Device specs:

  • Dimensions – 8.58 x 5 x 0.30 inches (218 x 126.6 x 7.7 mm)
  • Weight – 0.81 pounds (368g)
  • Screen size – 8.0” (203 mm) diagonal
  • Display Type – IPS
  • Resolution – 1920 x 1200
  • RAM – 2GB
  • Processor – (quad-core) Intel Atom
  • Internal Memory – 32GB
  • Audio – 3.5 mm headphone jack, dual microphones
  • Camera – 5MP (rear), 2MP (front)
  • Battery – 4000 mAh

Best Features

  • Very light
  • Hardware does not damage easily
  • Good battery life

What We Didn’t Like

  • Thick bezels
  • Overall performance not great
HP Envy 8 Note 5002 8" 32 GB Tablet Verizon 4G LTE
Windows 10, 8 inches Display; Processor: Intel Atom x5-Z8300 (1.44 GHz up to 1.84 GHz, 2 MB cache, 4 cores)

The Conclusion We Have Reached

Even though other operating systems perform well, Windows still has its charm. Despite being a little pricey, you might want to consider buying a device with this OS because it will last you longer. The devices have overall great features and include Windows’s reliability.
