Best Gaming Tablets That Will Get You Hooked To Playing [2020 Update]

Who doesn’t like games? There are plenty of them outside the world of Xbox and PS4. No, I’m not talking about ‘hide and seek’ or Monopoly. Although you can play Monopoly on a tab.

Android and iOS have so many games in their stores now, you no longer need a PC to play games – you have phones and tablets. While some smartphones are quite well designed for games, there is something more entertaining about the larger screen of a tablet. Check out our list of the best gaming tablets you can buy.

What You Need

You can buy the latest tablet and expect it to be good at everything, but that’s not always the case. There are certain features that make the top gaming tablets. Here is what you need to know about them:

Apple iPad Pro 11

(Essentials)

  • Screen size – The bigger the better? Not always. For gaming, you have to keep in mind not just how well you can see, but how you handle the device. The most preferred screen size is around 10” (254 mm), but other sizes between 8” (203.2 mm) to 11” (279.4 mm) are also great.
  • Resolution – For a bigger screen, you need a higher resolution, and yes, the higher the better. Given the current tablet standards, a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels is great for gaming, but you will most commonly come across 1200 x 800 pixels, which also works. Also, most tablets these days have an IPS LCD screen, which is great. If you want a little extra, you can look for an OLED or AMOLED display, which switches screens super fast and the transition is absolutely fluid.
  • RAM – RAM decides how fast your device runs, so you want a high RAM for gaming – the higher, the better. 8 GB is considered ideal for gaming, but lower value (at least 4 GB) can also serve the purpose.
  • Battery life – How much battery life you need depends greatly on your game as well as your processor. As a rule of thumb, you should look for something that gives you around 6 hours of usage with a single charge

(Good to have)

  • Storage – Most of the latest models come with a minimum of 32GB internal storage these days, which is usually okay. But you can never use all of that memory and when you’re looking for tablets for games, you will be searching for greater than average. So it is always useful if the tab supports micro SD cards to expand storage.

The Apple Store has a variety of games. This device is great for games like PUBG and Fornite. Owing to the large display, there is another one that is especially fun on this – Monument Valley. This 9.7” (246.38 mm) device has a lovely metallic design by ASUS. The tab is very slim and lightweight with a 0.28" (7.15 mm) thickness. Unfortunately, it is doubtful whether the ZenPad 3S will get an Android update beyond 7.0. Despite that, with its Hexa-core processor and 4 GB RAM, the performance of this tab is way above average.

The LCD screen is fully laminated and the viewing angles are great too. Images are very colorful the high resolution is great for gaming. There are two premium speakers on the side that also feature DTS HD Premium sound technology. The sound quality on this is much better than many other Android tabs. This is a fine entertainment device.

However, there isn’t a lot of internal storage given current tablet standards. Luckily, there is a dedicated slot for the microSD card. You get about 10 hours of usage on this battery, which is good for the size of the battery. You can spend hours on it playing hundreds of free games on Play Store. If you want to experience some of the best Android games, try out Alto’s Adventure and Asphalt 8: Airborne. However, this device is one of the best for PUBG.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 is many things, but it might not be your first choice for a gaming device. It has a sleek metallic design and a super slim body of 0.22" (5.7 mm) thickness, which makes it light and portable despite the screen size.

The tablet has a laminated screen and a beautiful super AMOLED display. Both images and videos are very clear with vibrant colors. The high resolution and large display makes entertainment all the more entertaining.

This device runs Android 9.0 Pie (upgradable), with a variation of 6 GB or 8 GB RAM. It has an octa-core processor and whether it is heavy data usage or multi-tasking, the overall performance of the tablet is unmatched. There is a ton of storage and a large battery – what else do you need?

This predecessor is no less than the Galaxy Tab S6. The Galaxy Tab S5e is another slim, light, and portable device by Samsung with a 0.22" (5.5 mm) thickness. The metallic design is comfortable to hold and carry around.

In screen size, resolution, and display, this tab is the same as the S6. This means the pictures are just as clear and colorful and gaming is great fun. There are four speakers with Dolby Atmos technology, so it would be a crime not to enjoy the sound effects on this.

Although the highest RAM you can get is 6 GB, the octa-core processor gives quite a fast and smooth performance. Since the battery size is the same as S6, but the RAM is lower, overall battery life is much better on this. This tablet is great for games like Fortnite, Minecraft, and any other Android game you may fancy – like, Fancy Blast.

Device specs:

  • Screen size: 10.1” (256.54 mm) diagonal
  • Display Type: IPS LCD display
  • Resolution: 1600 x 2560 pixels
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • Internal Memory: 64 GB (expandable)
  • Operating system: Android 6.0 Marshmallow
  • Weight: 1.47 pounds (667 g)
  • Battery: 10200 mAh
  • Color options: Black

The Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 Pro is probably one of the thinnest tablets you will come across – 0.18" (4.7 mm) thickness! That’s as slim as it gets. The metallic design is sleek and classy. It is easy to hold and even easier to show off – you will definitely want to carry around this chic device.

With its 4GB RAM and quad-core processor, this is not the most high-performing device. It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but unfortunately, no upgrade will be available for its operating system. Hence, you will be able to access most Android games, but may not get all the updates, or some of the newer games may not run as smoothly.

The tab only has an internal storage of 64 GB, but you can use a micro SD card, so that’s no worry. The resolution is pretty good, although not as high as its competitors. It does have a 3.5 mm headphone jack, but also has four front-facing JBL speakers with Dolby Atmos sound technology – so you should definitely use the speakers. The best part about the Yoga Tab is the huge battery life. The device has a 10,200 mAh battery that gives your 18 hours of usage! That’s a lot of gaming.

The 10.1” Full HD IPS crystal-clear display makes watching and playing even more fun

Device specs:

  • Resolution: 1920 x 1200 pixels
  • RAM: 3 GB or 4 GB
  • Internal Memory: 32 GB / 64 GB
  • Operating system: Android 8.0 Oreo
  • Weight: 1.05 pounds (475 g)
  • Battery: 7500 mAh
  • Color options: Champagne Gold and Space Gray

The Huawei MediaPad Lite is a great alternative to the other high-end products. The metallic body with curved edges makes up a pretty nice device. Inside, you get 3 or 4GB of RAM. Launched with Android 8.0 and an octa-core processor, this device simultaneously includes Huawei’s firmware, EMUI 8. It is doubtful whether there will be an Android update. The overall performance of the tab is good, but nothing extraordinary, to be honest.

The 10.1” (256.54 mm) display and high resolution make images sharp and vibrant. There is an eye-comfort mode that you can use for low lighting. This is also great if the tab is used by children. Overall display results are decent for gaming. Additionally, the device features four fine-tuned speakers and 3D surround sound, making your gaming experience even more fun.

It has a 7500 mAh battery that gives you many hours of guilt-free fun. You can enjoy almost any game you can find in the Play Store, be it Subway Surfers, Angry Birds or even high scale games like Call of Duty.

Smaller Alternate

Device specs:

  • Screen size: 7.9” (200.66 mm) diagonal
  • Display Type: Liquid Retina display
  • Resolution: 1536 x 2048 pixels
  • RAM: 3 GB
  • Internal Memory: 64 GB / 256 GB
  • Operating system: iOS 12.1.3 (upgradable)
  • Weight: 0.66 pounds (300.5 g - Wi-Fi), 0.68 pounds (308.2 g - Wi-Fi + cellular)
  • Battery: 5124 mAh
  • Color options: Silver, Space Gray and Gold

This is smaller only in size. Apple put all its efforts into building the iPad Mini 5th generation. It has a RAM of 3 GB and Hexa-core processor. Like other Apple devices, it is upgradable to the latest version of iOS. Hence, the performance of the device is not at all held back by its size.

The 7.9” (200.66 mm) screen is also comfortable to use, although it might be considered small by tablet standards. However, the resolution on this is incredible. The colors are bright and images are crisp – even just watching videos or browsing pictures on this is a delight. The speakers are decent, but that is hardly an issue since most people will use headphones.

The battery is not exactly large but compared to the specs of the device, it works very well. It gives you about 9-10 hours of multimedia usage, so for gaming, it would be less than that.

Final Thoughts

It is more important to get a powerful device than a fancy-looking one. Long hours of gaming put a lot of pressure on the processor, which can lead to static screen, system freeze or even over-heating of the device. Gather as much information as you can about what to check on before you choose your device.

Tablets are a great alternative to smartphones when it comes to gaming, with their larger screens and more powerful processors, better battery life. There are very few games that have any extra appeal on a tab compared to a computer. But since you can’t carry your computer, tablets will serve the purpose quite well.
