Whoever made the above statement accurately predicted the future of technology. Computers, phones, and tabs are gadgets that started out being large, and people spent years trying to make them smaller. Cellular phones were brought down to the size of your palm and now smartphones are becoming larger again. It is difficult to explain this phenomenon but the goal has always been to include as many things as possible in small packages.

The current standards may steer you towards the large screens of 10” (254 mm) or 12”(304.8 mm) tablets. However, several smaller ones are just as valuable, and we have a list of the best 8-inch tablets for you right here.

A small tablet has a larger screen than your phone. This can have more uses than you think. Because of the small size, these tablets are often lighter as well. It can be your ultimate travel buddy – for watching videos, playing games, and even reading. See below to find out more about them.

The Galaxy Tab A 8.0, launched in 2019, is a sleek device that you would want to use all the time. It has a nice aluminum body, is silver and only is only 8 mm in thickness. This device is slim, light, and was made to be carried in your travel bag.

The 8.0” (203.2 mm) display looks pretty good. It uses TFT (thin-film-transistor) technology to improve image quality like color and contrast. The resolution is suitable for this display size and the picture looks pretty crisp.

The tablet runs Android 9.0 Pie. It has a 2 GB RAM and a quad-core processor, which are a great combination for this size of the tablet. The 5100 mAh battery does a great job with its multimedia usage. The internal storage of 32 GB can be expanded, so you can carry it all over with you.

The rear camera takes some decent photos, although the front camera is not too great. It also has a 3.5 mm headphone jack and stereo speakers. The speakers don’t get very loud, so headphones might be your saving grace.

You get all you can expect from a Samsung 8-inch tablet. It is easy to use and does not cost a lot.

Chinese and Japanese manufacturers have released some great devices in the past few years but don’t get enough credit. The same goes for Huawei. This MediaPad M5 is one of the best 8-inch Android tablets you will find.

The tab has an 8.4” (213.36 mm) display with a high resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. Whether you are watching videos, movies, or even just browsing through images, the display is a delight. It is also fun to play games on.

The device has a 4 GB RAM and octa-core processor, so overall performance is much better than you would expect. It is fast and comes with a variation of built-in storage of up to 128 GB, which can be expanded further! You can store as many files as you like and also get some work done on the go. However, it does not support a SIM card.

The camera is pretty good and audio is decent. However, there is no headphone jack. The battery life could have been better, but this is still pretty good.

This device is super slim (7.3 mm thickness!) and light. There is a fingerprint scanner at the front. Suitable for both work and play, for the current price, you get a pretty good deal on this.

Amazon’s entry into the tablet industry with the Fire tablets has been greeted with a lot of enthusiasm. The Amazon Fire HD 8 is the 8.0” (203.2 mm) display of this range, which is a great choice for first-time tablet buyers.

The tablet has a RAM of 1.5 GB and internal storage of 16/ 32 GB. The quad-core processor does help with the speed of the device but does not still make multi-tasking any easier. However, owing to the low RAM, the 3210 mAh battery works pretty well.

The display looks quite sharp and colorful. The most enjoyable activity on this device is perhaps watching videos and reading. You can play games on it, but not too many. It is actually great for kids. There is no SIM card support, so you have to manage with Wi-Fi.

Camera quality is quite poor, but let’s be honest, nobody uses a tablet to take pictures (not anymore, at least). If you can manage to ignore this flaw, the rest of the device is pretty decent.

If you were to compare 8-inch tablets, this one doesn’t come out looking that great. But look at it individually and consider the price, this is a great buy. This is also a light device you can carry but it’s ideally suited for web browsing and/or reading.

The latest version of the iPad Mini was released in 2019 and this is stuffed with great features. The super-slim body of just 0.24" (6.1 mm) thickness comes in three colors – Space Gray, Silver, and Gold. This device is so light and slim that if you carry books in your bag, trust me, you won’t be able to find it.

The tablet is loaded with a Hexa-core processor and Apple’s latest A12 Bionic chip, which means the user interface is as smooth as ever. The device is fast and the overall performance is outstanding.

The camera results are great and the Retina display is flawless. Images are bright and the colors are vibrant. Whether it’s gaming or watching movies, the iPad Mini can handle it. The battery gives you up to 10 hours of usage on a single charge, so nothing can stand in your way.

Internal storage capacity goes up to 256 GB, so you might as well get the larger one. Store all your data in it and use the fingerprint lock to keep everything safe. There is the option of a cellular model as well, so you can use this as a backup phone.

It is a bit more expensive than other brands, but Apple products make up for this in terms of quality and constant software updates. So if you’re not shopping on a budget, go for it.

Another budget device that did not compromise on other features due to a smaller screen size is the NuVision 8.0” (203.2 mm) tablet. This 8-inch Windows tablet might surprise you with what’s inside.

On the outside, it looks rather neat. The silver body is slightly thicker than our other picks, but it’s still slim and comfortable to hold. There is a capacitive home key at the front with the Windows logo, which looks pretty nice.

With an Intel Atom quad-core processor and 2 GB RAM, this tablet performs much better than you might think. It runs on Windows 10 Home and hence, is a good choice if you need to work on the go. The Windows interface is seamless and is comfortable to use.

The display looks really good. Even though the screen does not get very bright, the high resolution gives you a great visual – with sharp images and vivid colors. The camera results are average at best. Multimedia is not really this tablet’s forte. There is 32 GB of internal storage, that can be expanded using a micro SD card. It does not, however, support a SIM card.

The battery life is not that good – about 6 hours on a single charge. All in all, this device is a good performer but has some flaws. It is a Windows tablet that looks and feels great in the hand, and comes at an affordable price – it’s definitely worth a shot.
