Best 10-inch Tablets That Can Replace Your Phone (well, almost)

In the current digitized world, smartphones are a necessity. With software getting more advanced, phones can now do more than making calls and taking pictures.

However, some tasks are just not meant to be done on a phone. You can’t carry around a laptop everywhere either. How do you find a midway? Enter – tablets.

Tablet computers (or, tabs) are the best solution that meets halfway. Slim and easy to carry, tabs now come in various sizes. I feel 7-inch (177.8 mm) or 8-inch (203.2 mm) tabs are too small and 13-inch (330.2 mm) is too big for a tab.

Somehow the 10-inch (254 mm) tab seems perfect for reading, editing documents, and watching movies or videos. But before rushing to the stores, there are a few things you should keep in mind.

What To Look For

Most tablet computers have more functions than smartphones. Hence, a little extra research can be helpful. First, you should know why you want a tab. It’s probably not because you want a good camera; most phones (not just the high-end ones) have a better camera than the most updated tablet.

You need to balance your reasons for buying one with the features you want in it. The following list is a good place to start:

  • Size and weight – If you’re into gaming, you might want to find one that would be comfortable to hold, like 8” (203.2 mm) tablets. In my opinion, for most other purposes, like, reading or watching videos, 10” works best. Tabs can weigh anything from 0.66 pounds (300g) to over 1.32 pounds (600g). 10-inch (254 mm) tablets usually weigh around 0.88 pounds (400g). If you plan to carry yours around, you should check this before buying.

  • Operating system and RAM size – If you plan to use multiple apps, a 10” android tablet would be the best choice, thanks to the huge collection we can find in Google Play Store. Although it cannot be stated that it is better than iOS or any other operating system. It completely depends on your needs.  Most tablets generally have 2GB or 4GB RAM, which is usually enough to use multiple apps. Some high-end brands do offer 6GB (best for a 10-inch tab) or even 8GB. So if you’re into gaming or use the tab for video conferencing, you might want to go for a higher RAM.

  • Battery life – This is essential no matter what you use the device for. Everybody wants a long battery life. But do pick a bigger battery if you plan to carry it when you travel. The ideal battery capacity for a 10” (254 mm) tab would be 6,000 mAh or higher. Lower capacity may also work well, depending on your RAM and processor, but a larger screen does often require a larger battery.

  • Attachments supported – Many high-end brands have additional attachments that you can use, for example, removable keyboard or stylus. With a removable keyboard, you can easily turn your tab into a laptop, in which case you will find a 10-inch (254 mm) screen size to be way more comfortable than smaller alternatives.

You should also make sure to check whether the device allows just Wi-Fi or both Wi-Fi and cellular network, in case you want to use a SIM with it. And of course, storage capacity – definitely check built-in memory, whether or not it is expandable as well how much extra it can support.

If I were you, I would make a short list. Find a few products you like and follow this guide to make a decision.

  • Remember what you want to use the device for, find features accordingly
  • Decide on a budget
  • Browse brands based on your budget – if you have a high range, definitely consider Samsung or Apple
  • Do not forget to check out multiple sellers – you might find a better deal than the first one you saw
  • Depending on where you order from, contact your seller and find out about the warranty
  • Place your order and wait

There is no questioning the quality of an Apple product. With a 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage, this is one of the best tablets in the market.

Its slim body of just 0.30 inches (7.62 mm) thickness and sleek silver/gold back will steal your heart. It also comes in space grey. It has a large battery that will last throughout the day.

You can use Apple pencil with this to take notes or sketch, as well as the Apple smart keyboard to use it for typing. But you do have to buy them separately.

The good thing is you don’t need either to watch videos – the 2160 x 1620 screen resolution is great for watching movies.

The device can be locked with a fingerprint sensor, so you can also store private data in it.

Considering the regular prices of previous iPads, this is quite a catch for very little cash.

Apple iPad (10.2-inch, Wi-Fi, 32GB) - Silver (Previous Model)
10. 2-inch Retina display; A10 Fusion chip; Touch ID fingerprint sensor; 8MP back camera, 1. 2MP FaceTime HD front camera

When Apple comes up with a product, they do not stop at one version. The Apple iPad Air lives up to the tag “air” – with its 0.24” (6.09 mm) thickness, it probably one of the thinnest in the market.

The beautiful slim metal body comes in three colors, silver, gold, and space grey. With a 10.5” (266.7 mm) display and 2224 x 1668 resolution, watching videos on this device is quite a treat.

There are stereo speakers and contains dual microphones for video calling. It comes with an 8MP main camera with autofocus and HD video recording.

The Touch ID sensor also works as a Home button like other Apple products. It comes with a 3GB RAM and two variations of internal memory – 64GB or 256GB (which is quite a variation).

The device was released in 2019 and supports the Apple Pencil, if you want to add an accessory. The iPad itself can be found on Amazon.

Apple iPad Air (10.5-inch, Wi-Fi, 64GB) - Space Gray (3rd Generation)
10.5-inch Retina display with True Tone and wide color; A12 Bionic chip; Touch ID fingerprint sensor and Apple Pay

Apple is great, but are you an Android fan? If you are, this section is for you. I would readily grade this the best 10-inch android tablet of 2019.

Samsung has outdone itself with this one. With a variation of 6GB or 8GB RAM, this device is designed for people to work on the go.

The screen size is a bit bigger at 10.5” (266.7 mm) diagonally, but it has a slim body of 0.22” (5.58 mm) thickness, which helps to even out the overall weight.

It has a dual camera of 13MP and 5MP at the back, and 8MP at the front. There is a fingerprint scanner on the screen to safely lock your data.

The S-Pen is included in the box, which has some amazing features of its own. Did you know that you can use it to operate the tab from a distance using gestures?

Not to mention, Samsung has improved its handwriting recognition, so you can write on the tab with the pen and the tab will convert it to typed text quite accurately.

All this comes with a price. However, the Galaxy Tab S6 is definitely a premium device.

Did the price tag scare you? Don’t worry, there are other options. This one, for example, is far from expensive. With a 2GB RAM and Android 8.1, this device performs much better than you would expect.

It has 2 front-facing speakers and a 5MP rear camera, which can be found on just about any tab.

It has a micro SD card slot which can increase your storage up to 256GB. The tab weighs only about 1.05 pounds (480g), so you can carry it anywhere.

There is an Alexa enabled charging dock included, which can turn your tab into a smart home device. Unfortunately, it is not exactly the same; the uses are somewhat limited.

This is probably the best cheap 10-inch tablet you will find. It is currently available on Amazon, so hurry!

An Android tablet with 10. 1” HD Display and dual front speakers with Dolby Atoms; Alexa built in: your tablet turns into a smart screen when docked.

There were two variations released of this Smart Tab – M10 and P10. Most of their features are the same, including the screen size and resolution.

However, the P10 has slightly added features and is slightly more expensive. It has a 3GB RAM and 32GB built-in storage, expandable up to 256GB.

The battery life on this is much longer since they both have the same processor but the P10 has a 7,000 mAh battery. It has a fingerprint sensor that allows safe login.

It also has 4 front-facing speakers, making the audio experience much better. The main camera is 8MP, which isn’t that great, but higher than the M10.

We are not certain that the added features are worth the additional cost. But if evaluated individually, this tab does seem like a pretty great device. And hey, it is still cheaper than Samsung.

Another Samsung device that has been quite popular in 2019 is the Galaxy Tab A. The 3GB RAM works pretty well with the Exynos chipset in providing a smooth operating device.

It has an 8MP main camera and a 5MP front camera, which isn’t that great. But the camera is not its selling point. It has a 6,000 mAh battery with a type-C cable included in the box which allows fast charging.

It comes in three colors – black, gold, and silver. The navigation is smooth and easy and a great device if you have never used a tablet before. It has a card slot, so you can increase memory for more storage.

Samsung products are not always affordable. But if you have ever been interested in this brand, this is your chance. Considering the current price, this might be the Samsung tablet you are looking for.

It might be unusual to see Windows in a list of best smartphones, but not so much for tablets. Windows has done a pretty good job with the Surface range, and the Surface Go is our pick for one of the best 10” tabs.

The device comes in a variation of 4GB or 8GB RAM with a 64GB or 128GB built-in storage. Loaded with Windows 10 and Intel Pentium Gold processor, this tab is fit for both work and play. Although its 3,411 mAh battery isn’t the best out there.

It has a Nano SIM tray, you can also use a cellular network on this. The tab also has an 8 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera with HD video feature. And let’s not forget the removable type cover (sold separately) that can turn this tab into a full-fledged laptop.

This device is not exactly budget-friendly. However, the reliability of Windows does deserve some extra credit.

The brand has been in the market for some time now, but do you know how to pronounce it correctly yet? It’s fine if you don’t, you can still enjoy its products.

If you haven’t used Huawei products yet, the Mediapad M5 Lite could be your first. It comes in is a beautiful aluminum frame with a choice of two colors – Champagne Gold and Space Grey.

There are variations of 3GB or 4GB RAM. Launched with Android 8.0 and an octa-core processor, this device performs well overall. Huawei’s firmware, EMUI 8 is included simultaneously.

Both back and front cameras are 8MP and take pretty decent shots. The 10.1” (256.54 mm) display and 1920 x 1200 resolution make images sharp and vibrant. It has a huge 7,500 mAh battery that ensures your work or pleasure remains uninterrupted.

It was released in 2018 but is still a popular choice for 10” tablets. For the current price, this tab is quite impressive. Kudos to Huawei!

Lenovo has done quite well in the tablet game. One of its most exclusive products has to be the Yoga Tab 3 Pro.

With its 4GB RAM and Intel Atom quad-core processor, it matches many of its competitors. No upgrade is available for its Android 6.0 operating system.

It has 64GB of internal memory and a dedicated slot for a micro SD card. Doesn’t sound like much? Wait for it.

The device has a 10,200mAh battery that has a maximum standby time of 49 days! And this gigantic battery comes in a slim body of 0.19” (4.8 mm) thickness.

It has a 13MP main camera (quite high for a tab) with autofocus and a 5MP front camera. This tab has a 10.1” (256.54 mm) full HD display and four stereo speakers making it ideal for watching movies on a train. You can use it for both work and play, and believe me, you will want to carry this around everywhere.

For the current price, this is a very good deal. It was released in 2016, but is still worth every penny.

The 10.1” Full HD IPS crystal-clear display makes watching and playing even more fun

The tablet industry is not as popular as the smartphone industry yet. Maybe this is why Amazon entered the game. And I would give them credit for their attempts with the Amazon Fire HD 10. If you’re shopping on a tight budget, you might want to consider this.

It has a 2GB RAM and quad-core processor like any other tab. Its 2MP main camera is not that great given the current market scenario.

Amazon’s firmware Fire 5.3 is included with a customized version of Android 5.1. However, the 10.1” (256.54 mm) full HD display does make images and videos look really good.

The 3,830 mAh battery works fine, but is not a lot compared to its competitors. It comes in a lovely variety of three colors – Black, Marine Blue and Punch Red (this one’s my favorite). It was released in 2017 and has been quite popular.

Features are decent and the device works well. I suppose we have too many options for gadgets these days to be able to look at one objectively. For the price tag, this is probably a lot. This is definitely a budget tablet, and a pretty good one at that.

Others That Shouldn’t be Ignored

In addition to this list, there are a bunch of others you can choose from. However, there are some that we did not classify as “the best” but are still pretty good in terms of price and overall features. These don’t have all the latest features but do give good value for money.

This probably isn’t a brand you have heard of before. It is relatively new. Dragon Touch was founded in 2011 and concentrates on a niche market.

However, their tablets have gained popularity in their industry, even if we were not aware of it.

The Dragon Touch K10 is a 10.1” (256.54 mm) Android tab with a 2GB RAM. It comes with a 16GB internal storage, expandable to 128GB. It has a quad-core processor and a long-lasting battery.

It is currently available on Amazon and on its official website. Given the low price range, it is a pretty decent device and has received a lot of praise.

The Lenovo Tab 4 comes in both 8” and 10” sizes. Released in 2017, this tab was quite popular among its competitors.

It featured Android 7.0 and had a 7,000mAh battery. People mostly preferred it due to its long battery life. With its 2GB and 16GB/ 32GB internal storage, this device was more than satisfactory with its 10.1” (256.54 mm) HD display.

Not the best tablet for work or study, but it made a good device for children – to play videos and games on. Unfortunately, the device is not prominent in the current market, and is only available in some locations now.

These choices are based on what is available in the market at the moment, and would certainly change over time. However, it does feel like some brands will always make the list. We would love to hear your views on it.
